This unbuffered tissue is best used for wrapping certain textiles such as silk or leather items because it does not contain any buffering agents and has a neutral pH rating.
Most of the time, we recommend buffered acid free tissue to be used for long term storage products. This tissue is acid free and archival, but it's not buffered. We recommend that it be used when you aren't sure that the product you are protecting is sensitive to the buffered surface of the other tissue. Use this Tissue Non-Buffered Acid Free when you have protein based Textiles such as silk and wool. Use it for leather items, too.
The tissue is not buffered. Therefore it is susceptible to acid migration from nearby items. Over time (and this includes time capsules), this tissue paper will become acidic and brittle. The acidity will transfer to adjacent objects (things it's lying next to). This in turn causes the objects to become weaker and possibly discolored. Acid free tissue papers are specially processed to remove such contaminants. These nonbuffered tissues start out at a pH of 7, but over time the pH will degrade. This non-buffered acid-free tissue has a smooth finish. It works great for padding, wrapping, and cushioning textiles such as silk.
Its weight grading is 12lb. (24g/m2). All of the tissue that we sell is rated to pass the PAT test for photographic enclosures. We do, however, fold the tissue when we pack it, and place it into a zip lock plastic bag of a small size to aid in packing and shipping.
We fold the tissue for ease of shipping.
This is for a bulk pack of 100 sheets.
