Artistic Time Capsule Preserves View in Manassas
Often we never hear back from our customers once they survive their time capsule project. But Margaret Stickley sent us these photos from 2001, and they show what her group did with their time capsule. What she did to make her time capsule a work of art…and help preserve the landscape view for a long time.
Small Time Capsule is a Work of Art
Artist Margaret Stickley painted this time capsule to show the farm scene before church construction at Grace United Methodist Church in Manassas, Virginia. This time capsule’s size is 9 x 6 x 15". The Church dedicated the time capsule during the beginning of the millennium.
Margaret Stickley of Grace UMC wrote to us in December 2001, and here is a synopsis of the letter:
Here are the long-promised photos of our time capsule (and me). The cabinet was especially built to house it. It is located in narthex of the Grace United Methodist church, Manassas, VA. The scene of the farm prior to construction of our church (1984) on this site.
By the Way – What is a Narthex?
A narthex is an architectural element typical of early Christian and Byzantine basilicas and churches consisting of the entrance or lobby area, located at the west end of the nave, opposite the church’s main altar.
Touching Way to Preserve Past History
By painting a scene of what was on the property before Grace UMC built their church, Margaret successfully preserved that part of their history. Visitors who view the capsule will always remember the farm that was once there. The paint also helps preserve the time capsule, and it will last a long time.
