Full Preservation Style 4000
We offer two kinds of boxes that have welded closures. One is a basic preservation style, the 4500 Line (q.v.) and the other is this full preservation style. With this style, you send us your items and we schedule preservation for them. Available by application only. (Please call for an application to be mailed to your designated representative.)
The FPP Model 4000 time capsule is designed for flat placement of documents photos and ephemera in any environment. It can be buried. It includes professional preservation of customer’s contents to include all preservation quality enclosures needed, as well as proper cushioning, RP system oxygen absorbers, silica gel, fiberglass cloth if needed, at no additional charge., and factory welded seal. No Preservation Enclosure Kit is needed with this style of time capsule.
Material: 304L stainless steel of .075” thickness.
Finish: Natural; although other finishes are available.
Closure: Factory weld.
Conditioning Agents: RP System Exact amounts are determined based on final pack.
Estimated life of seal: Up to 500 years.
FEATURES
- Custom sizes to fit your cornerstone cavity are no problem. Specify outer dimension.
- Can be placed in either vertical or horizontal direction
- Factory closure is included. Send us your items to place into the time capsule and we preserve them, add RP conditioners to extract air, weld closed, and ship back to you for placement.
- This style is the best for burial.
Preservation is a term we use for what we do to prevent harm from happening to items within you capsule, over time (inherent vice, e.g.) We give each item what we feel is the best protection for it in consideration of the other items inside. See our preservation kits information to know the kinds of materials we use. We only purchase materials that are of high archival quality. For paper and liner boxes, it must be permanent, Acid Free, Lignin Free & Buffered.
Our "MVP" Bags assure a moisture/vapor-proof inner climate for items that might off-gas as well as those that need a different humidity level than the rest of the contents in the capsule. Other criteria we use is available upon request.
We do not do conservation work and we do not guarantee wonderful results. We just use good judgment, good materials, and do our best with protecting your items. We think that those who open the capsule in the future will be pleased, and not disappointed, with our efforts on your behalf.
Essentially, your items will receive the proper preservation care they need to last a long time within the time capsule. We try to pack within 2" of the welded end to preclude heating items. Fabrication and closure is by stainless steel welding by certified master welders.
Some customers prefer to use a Mock-Up Box, and then they send the items to us in the same box. Other customers just send us their items for a size determination. Be sure to allow plenty of time!
Finishes
Depending upon the time capsule placement that you decide on, your desired look, and the time of interment, you may consider a polished finish. Should you want argon purging, you need to order that separately ($35). Argon purging calls for separate fittings. Allow an extra week for any modification.
Dimensions specified are inner dimensions. Custom capsules such as cornerstones are available and are quoted separately. Call for more infomation.
Note: Allow 5 weeks lead time for capsule fabrication if not in stock, 4 weeks for item preservation (these may be simultaneous). After scheduling with us, you may send additional items up to 2 weeks before final seal.
